My Letter To Frank Mickens

Recently I had an e-mail discussion with WFMY's Frank Mickens about what gets coverage on News 2. According to Frank, if you're an elected offical then you represent the people and therefore the local media will pitch any hairbrained scheme you come up with. Hense the reason GPAC was pitched by the local media. But if you're not an elected offical or at least rolling in cash then WFMY hasn't the time of day for your ideas no matter how great they might be. With that in mind I'll be sending the following e-mail to Frank Mickens just as soon as I finish posting it here.

"Frank,
I was wondering if you've reported on these issues. This first one comes from Action Greensboro, the "non profit" funded with Greensboro tax dollars. It seems their 3rd party studies conflict with what the Mayor, DGI and even Action Greensboro would like us to believe and seem to suggest the study is being suppressed so the Mayor can attempt a downtown land grab: http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2013/01/too-many-mixed-messages.html

And since you've showed a willingness to report on GPAC, why not lift the veil: http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2013/01/news-record-why-not-lift-veil.html

How much has the City of Greensboro "earned" from gambling while taking advantage of the poor? http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2013/01/city-profits-from-gambling.html Are you aware that Greensboro,s Marty Kotis of Kotis Properties has long refused to rent buildings to Sweepstakes gambling operations because he believes strongly that it is wrong?

Here's one that deserves some coverage and should meet your criteria being that it comes directly from the offices of the City of Greensboro: Greensboro is the highest taxed city in North Carolina, bar none: http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2013/01/greensboro-most-taxed-city-in-north.html

Oh, and just as proof our mayor is in-fact an idiot: http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2013/01/from-robbie-perkins-facebook-page.html

Or how about this quote from former Councilman, Tom Phillips on DGI: http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2013/01/tom-phillips-on-downtown-greensboro-inc.html

And finally, this leaked study from the Greensboro Partnership also paid for in-part by tax dollars that didn't have the results Greensboro's leaders wanted to hear: http://greensboroperformingarts.blogspot.com/2012/02/oops-it-leaked-out.html

Are you a reporter, a journalist or a whore, Frank?"

You see, Folks, like it or not, true or not, that's how we in the real working class, the majority of your users, view the media. The only thing we can't seem to agree on is if you're liberal or conservative biased. But me, I'm beginning to think you're not biased at all-- just for sale to the highest bidder. Here's the media's chance to prove me wrong. Do you have the balls to do it?
