Greensboro's Fine Line

Brian Clarey of Yes! Weekly makes us aware of the following quote from Councilman Zack Matheny on the Greensboro Natural Science Center.

“There’s a fine line between being conservative and fiscally responsible, and not investing in your community,” continued Matheny, who has two boys. “This is an investment, and it’s an investment that makes sense. It’s an investment that’s going to be amazing. It’s an investment that’s going to bring 10-, 20-fold to our economic development in our community, and 40-fold to the kids that are going to come here. So it’s very easy to support.”

Other Greensboro communities are wondering why the City Council hasn't kept it's promises?

Downtown Greensboro is said to be thriving by the very same people who want to build a downtown performing arts center. Downtown business owners get loans from City Council. And their plotting to get more. District 3 has shopping centers, sussessful businesses, low crime rates and the Greensboro Natural Science Center but what does Northeast Greensboro and District 2 have? 1000 acres of nothing, 50 years of destruction at the hands of downtown developers, lies and lies of omission.

And what will we get if we wait for our leaders to do the right thing? More empty promises from a city council that makes promises they know they can't keep. hiden truths so a few rich downtown developers can get you and I to pay for their entertainment while spreading lies does backroom deals and ignoring the rest of the city from behind smoke and mirrors.

What? Me, angry? Why would I be angry, I've only been getting ripped-off by the City of Greensboro for the last 55 years. You should be angry too.

Tell downtown developers and the Greensboro City Council to build Greensboro's performing inside little green circle or be prepared to be run out of town once and for all. Tomorrow, the real fight will begin.

Update: Jeff Martin writes, "I agree we should send a unified message to Martinet Perkins and the Perkinettes that no more bonds will be approved by the voters until existing commitments have been honored."

Update 2: John Hammer of the Rhino Times writes of a forgone conclusion and exposes more of the dirty tricks being used by Mayor Perkins and the Perkinetes. I can't say as to whether or not this is in response to Asking The Rhino Times.
