"The votes are in, and the winner of the inaugural Charity of Choice program at the recent Wyndham Championship is [Mike Barber's] The First Tee of the Triad. The program was created by tournament title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, one of the world's largest hospitality companies.
Throughout the tournament, spectators voted at computer kiosks in the "Key to Wyn" tent for their "charity of choice" from almost 50 local and national not-for-profit children's organizations. The donation came through Wishes by Wyndham, the philanthropic foundation of Wyndham Worldwide and official charity of the Wyndham Championship.
After Wyndham winner Webb Simpson [Sam Simpson's brother] received the Sam Snead Cup for winning the 72nd annual Wyndham Championship, he presented a $100,000 check to The First Tee of the Triad on behalf of Wishes by Wyndham.
"We were so grateful to the Wyndham for giving us this opportunity and thankful to all the fans who believed in us enough to vote for us," The First Tee of the Triad president Jeff Howard said.
"We're in our fourth year, and we've touched over 16,000 kids already...
Thanks again to Wishes by Wyndham for this generous donation."
Following the Charity of Choice donation, The First Tee of the Triad donated $5,000 to each of the other top-five finishers in the Charity of Choice listed alphabetically: Autism Society of North Carolina, Greensboro Children's Museum, United Way and Victory Junction.
