More Lies From The GPAC Task Force

In a Facebook conversation at Greensboro & Guilford County Politics yesterday with GPAC Task Force member David McLean, owner of the public relations company, king's english , Mr McLean wrote: "The purpose of the GPAC was never job creation. It's a venue for performing arts."

To which I replied: "The Task Force repeatedly cited jobs as a reason to build GPAC- now you're saying the task force lied?"

David McLean went about his GPAC propaganda but never answered my question.

Later, Dan Bayer asked, " Is that Nederlander promise to send us first-run acts in writing?"

I went on to say, "That's been the entire problem with the entire GPAC process from Day 1. We keep getting told all these things are being taken care of but to date, NOTHING the Task Force has claimed to be true has ever been verifiable. Not the $20 Million in private money, not the Hotel bonds, not the gaming money (it fell through)... And then we find out the key players behind GPAC, Robbie Perkins and Walker Sanders colluded to make City Council think a new downtown park was dependent on GPAC. And people like David McLean want to convince us this GPAC thing is on the up and up. We've had an entire year of lies, it's time for some truth. Jobs David?"

David McLean went about his GPAC propaganda but never answered our questions.

I continued, "David McLean Are you capable of a straight answer to a question?"

"Dan Bayer asked " Is that Nederlander promise to send us first-run acts in writing?" and David McLean did everything BUT answer his question."

Lies of omission are still lies. Still no answers from GPAC Task Force Member and professional PR person, David McLean, who admitted previously that he was recruited to the Task Force to handle PR for the group. Typical PR BS and the reason GPAC will be forever despised by the citizens of Greensboro.

And then we move on the the latest lies by Task Force member, Susan Schwartz, pointed out in yesterday's N&R LTE by Greensboro resident Kathy Carpenter when she points out, "As one who voted, not against the renovation but against the unnecessary additions to the renovation and the resultant higher price tag, I believe those who chose the final package to put before the voters deserve blame."

Again, lies of omission from the GPAC Task Force. Task Force members are happy to point out that bonds for War Memorial were voted down but they never admit why they were voted down-- always pointing the finger at someone else. It's time for some straight answers Walker Sanders. Otherwise you'll be stuck where you are the rest of your life-- the second most hated man in Greensboro. Don't believe me? Google Walker Sanders.

GPAC Fascism: Maybe It Should Crumble?

Susan Schwartz of the Cemala Foundation writes:

"Some say the choice of constructing a performing arts center must go to the voters. I say, why? Voters had the opportunity in two bond referendums to renovate War Memorial Auditorium. They chose not to and it is crumbling away."

Dear Ms Scwhwartz,
While I hate the thought of loosing a memorial to the brave men who fought and died for us, perhaps this should serve as a lesson to you and your kind. War Memorial Auditorium, like the rest of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex has been mismanaged since its opening in 1958 long before you set foot in Greensboro. The working class have had enough of throwing money in holes and you now have the audacity to suggest that we haven't the right to speak our minds and vote on the issue. Your solution to the problem of War Memorial Stadium is to build a downtown performing arts center to be managed in the exact same way and by the exact same staff as the auditorium you now blame the taxpayers for its demise? How dare you point fingers?

Coliseums, auditoriums and performing arts centers around the world can and do operate at a profit but as long as you, Mayor Perkins, Walker Sanders and the rest of the GPAC supporters continue to support a failed business model that has operated in the red every year for the last 54 years you cannot expect support from the community. The citizens of Greensboro, left, right and center, have had enough of your Fascist attempts to control our city.

You see, Ms Schwartz, while I realize it's completely over your self-absorbed head, our neighborhoods and our ability to eak out an honest living are far more important to the vast majority of Greensboro's working class that your monuments to your own kind will ever be. And if you continue to wage this class warfare on us we will raise the bar beyond the level you and your kind are willing to go. Remember: you drew first blood.
