Sal Leone Fights Back

Yesterday I posted Greensboro Police Used To Manipulate Upcoming Election  in which I made public an e-mail from District 5 Candidate Sal Leone claiming... Well, claiming what the link stated. In this e-mail Sal follows up with a public information request to the City of Greensboro.

Anyway, I'm off to the shop today. In the meantime check out Why write in Billy Jones for Mayor of Greensboro? by Abner Doon.

Sal Leone Says No To TREBIC

District 5 City Council Candidate Sal Leone turns down the big money endorsement from TREBIC (Triad Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition) the most powerful local lobby in the State of North Carolina. How many other politicians will do the same?

The Thomasville Times On Greensboro's Sal Leone

Sal Leone is a resident of Greensboro, a candidate for City Council District 5, and employed as a police officer in the City of Thomasville

The War Against Shoplifting
by Debbie Hightower

THOMASVILLE – Retail crime in Thomasville is going down thanks to the efforts of Thomasville Police Officer Sal Leone. For the past few years, the 25-year veteran law enforcement officer has waged a war against shoplifting.

“Chief Insley started the shoplifting program two or three years ago,” said Chief Darren Smith. “They did it around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sal enjoyed it. He did such a good job we left him doing it.”

On a recent morning, Leone made the rounds of retail locations on his beat. That meant circling through the parking lot for some but for others, he exited his trusty 2012 Dodge Charger and walked inside, greeting merchants, clerks and even some customers by name.

His diligence means the criminals know his face. They also know they are no longer welcome. When Leone walks into a store, shoplifters leave — quickly.

Through experience he has come to understand why suspects engage in retail crime. For them, it’s a Robin Hood mentality.

“They don’t want to go to someone’s house and steal. They would rather steal from a large retailer who does a huge amount of business and won’t miss it,” he explained. “They will steal food to eat and merchandise to sell. They will steal $1,000 worth of merchandise and trade it for $100 and they’re good.”

Leone described the process of boosting, an organized retail crime process in which buyers actually give individuals a list of items to steal that are later sold for a fraction of their cost.

“The woman who ran me over back in April did it because she was a big booster,” he said.

After he was hit by the car in a big box parking lot, Leone went right back to work.

Leone’s patrol car also serves as his office. Instead of a filing cabinet Leone keeps files above his driver’s side visor. He doesn’t take a coffee break because crime doesn’t take a break. Instead, he sips coffee as he types with one hand on his laptop. From his dashboard laptop, he can write a citation, complete paperwork for a warrant or check the state database to see if someone has a history of crime.

He knows many repeat offenders by name. Some of them are smiling in their mug shots.

“See that smile on her face? There’s no shame. One woman came to the same store twice in one day. When I arrested her she told me she was going to go back out and do it again.”

Leone’s experience also tells him the root reason for most of Thomasville’s retail theft — drugs. The trail of a shoplifter who had stolen $24 worth of disposable diapers led to a stash of crystal meth in the woman’s purse. She is still in jail.

At the beginning of his 25-year career in law enforcement, Leone encountered five or so needles a year in the line of duty. During recent years, however, needles numbers in the hundreds. Recently, he had to empty the needle disposal receptacle in his patrol car because it was too full to accept any more.

At the Thomasville Police Station, Leone communicates with a Davidson County magistrate through a phone link, eliminating the necessity to travel to Lexington to obtain an arrest warrant.

Shoplifters often get a thrill from stealing merchandise when they think it is undetected. Leone gets his thrill when he catches a perpetrator who thinks they got away.

An average simple arrest takes about two hours out of his day — a worthwhile investment.
Chief Smith described the impact that Leone’s diligence has caused.

“He’s made a lot of arrests and I believe it’s caused a decrease over a period of time.”

In 2016, there were 279 cases of larceny-shoplifting in Thomasville. So far, in 2017 there have been 65 incidents.

“I feel that a lot of our traveling shoplifters target other areas because they know that we have somebody focusing on that,” said Smith. “[The retailers] appreciate him and are glad to see him. Sal taking on that role has definitely been beneficial.”

“Shoplifting has multiple victims,” said Leone. “It hurts not only the retail company, but other customers, the taxpayers and the city.

“Thirty billion plus in national retail theft per year … if you put everything in a national level it’s crazy. When I see a pattern of crime I can connect the dots. It’s a sad, sad game of cat and mouse.
“I love my job.”

Sal Leone Responds To John Hammer

I am running in District 5 City Council race and like always the Rhino Times trashes me. I ask that people pray for this man. I ask why is John so worried about me or is it a bigger story, Well lets look at it as an investigation. The Rhino Times is a free paper because who in their right mind would pay for it. The Rhino Times makes money off advertisement, very simple concept.

The next question is who advertises with them, Tony Wilkins being one, he running in District 5, I don't advertise with them so kicking me is in their best interest. The Greensboro Coliseum does business with them, guess who manages the coliseum or at least has control, City Council, the dots are connecting now. I think you might ask who else in the past might have advertised, Marty Kotis, who is Marty Kotis, only Tony Wilkins biggest sugar daddy and that's no secret.

The biggest fear is that I have no price tag because money is not important to me, doing right is, but people are blind to facts. The first thing I like to do is start an ethics bill in council that no one or company connected to a donor can give to a local council elections. I will be fair and say anyone or company doing 10,000 or more with the city can not give directly or indirectly. I really hope people are not blind to think that council can stay fair when they get money from these people, do you really think money is given without a string.

I will give more of my plans in the future but this is my start as I want to respond to John Hammer and his paper who from what I hear inflates his paper numbers, because I don't see many people reading it, my cat's love the paper in the litter box and that's why I use it.

Maybe It's Just Coincidence But...

Of course by now you've already heard that former Greensboro City Councilman and current head of Downtown Greensboro Inc was arrested early this morning for driving while intoxicated. Already sources are telling me there's more to the story than Fox8 is telling us and you can bet we here at EzGreensboro.com will get you all the embarrassing parts the "real" media won't tell you.

"The vehicle was parked and running in the parking lot of the former Harris Teeter on North Church Street and East Cone Boulevard in Greensboro at 3:40 a.m. Friday morning, Danielsen said."

You know, like how Zack actually ran off the road and into the parking lot after passing out while driving at 3 times the legal limit for alcohol consumption. Or so we've been told by sources close to the Greensboro Police Department. The actual numbers will be in the police reports we'll show you as soon as they show us.

Speaking of police reports I've got another interesting police report to show you today.

Remember how On Tuesday I asked, I asked Why Is Joe Killian Of The News & Record Covering Up Devin King's Near Fatal Accident?  And on Wednesday I proved Joe Killian knew of Devin King's "accident" and lied as to why he never covered the story in my post  Joe Killian And The Dark Money Trail?

Well today I give you Sal Leone's near fatal accident report in which a woman named Jessica Suzanne Craven crashed first into a motorcycle then into Greensboro Mayoral Candidate Sal Leone driving Sal's Honda under the side of a tractor-trailer as reported without much detail by none other than Joe Killian, aka Joseph Fredrick Wilbur,  of the Greensboro News & Record.

Now in my post Was Devin King's "Accident" Attempted Murder? I mentioned possible connections to Marty Kotis who has contributed large sums of money to Mayor Nancy Barakat "Grasshopper" Vaughan's reelection campaign. Well it just so happens there's a connection to Marty Kotis in Sal's "accident" as well.

It just so happens that Jessica Suzanne Craven works for none other than John Hardister at First Carolina Mortgage and our boy Marty, aka William Marshall Kotis, III, just happens to be a very big contributor to the John Hardister political campaign.

Now that is not to say that John Hardister is in any way involved. I'm just making the point that Marty Kotis and Jessica Craven may well be acquainted. After all, First Carolina Mortgage only has one location.

And attempts to get in touch with Ms Craven by Mr Leone's insurance company have been unsuccessful. It's as if she skipped the country.

But like I said, maybe it's just coincidence but in the meantime continue reading Now It's Thessa Pickett's Turn.

Leone Files Complaint In Barber Hayworth Case

Sal Leone e-mailed myself, members of the local media and others tonight to inform us that he has formally filed a complaint with the State Bureau of Investigation concerning possible fraud, extorsion and conspiracy charges leveled at Greensboro City Councilman Mike Barber by Downtown Greensboro Inc interum CEO Cindy Hayworth:

"Filed Public Complaint with SBI

I think serious fraud or extortion so I filed a public complaint with the SBI, if it goes anywhere I don't know. The fact is someone is lying and someone got involved in a process he should of not. I wonder if that is normal conduct of a council member to call people for jobs for pals. I don't like fraud and I like it even less with tax payer money.

SAL LEONE"

In discussing this on the telephone with Mr Leone we both agree that no matter who you believe the charges are serious and should be investigated at the state level. As an experienced police officer, Mr Leone has experience in these matters, has worked side by side with the SBI in the past and was quickly able to find his way to file the complaint.

Besides, it's not like we can trust City Council to do it.

Open A Dialog Greensboro

Over at Real Progress For Greensboro Sal Leone wrote:

"Nancy has said she wants open govt. try emailing her for a meeting, and promise to be nice, send her a list of questions in advance this way she is not caught off guard, nancy is mayor and she has to be careful what she saids to some point. Reach out to her and see. Nancy is under a lot of pressure, she got gpac a mess, and a few other issues, send her an open email to talk, she probably is not to happy with the blog but that's America, reach out to her and if she lies to you then it is what it is then, but if you both can reach a deal then go for it, who knows she might put you on a board."

I founded the forum Real Progress For Greensboro with the hopes of opening a dialog. Mayor Nancy Baracat Vaughan was a member until she chose to leave on December 7, 2013 rather than tell the truth about the Downtown Parking Issues I brought up there. (Here for those who don't use Facebook.) That's right, Nancy, multimillion dollar issues are never going away.

I've never turned a Greensboro resident away from joining Real Progress For Greensboro and I've only 2 hard and fast rules 1. No Spam and 2. No partisan politics.

I've been e-mailing Mayor Vaughan and the rest of city council for years-- they don't answer my e-mails. If you don't believe me then send a public information request to the City of Greensboro at inforequests@greensboro-nc.gov and ask that they send you my e-mails to city council members along with the replies from council members. You'll very quickly notice the disparity and lack of dialog on their part.

And I was the one who first suggested Greensboro move towards Open Source Government.

Here's the facts:

You cannot have a dialog with someone who lies or otherwise obscures the facts. As the Downtown parking issues point out, Mayor Vaughan, Zack Matheny and others on council are in the habit of lying and obscuring the facts.

You cannot have a dialog with someone who won't reply to you. Those of you who file public information requests will know the truth that while I try to talk with Council, Council does not give me the time of day.

Sal tells me to be nice. Why the hell should I? They've ignored and ran roughshod on me and my entire east Greensboro neighborhood since it was annexed in 1958. From the City of Greensboro website:

"This lively community began to wind down in the late 1950s and 1960s when, under the guise of "urban renewal," thousands of people and more than 80 businesses (many minority-owned) were displaced. Most of those businesses never reestablished."

And that was just the beginning, it got worse. A lot worse.

I am not going to play nice with a class of people who have a 50 year history of attacking me and my neighbors until said people mend their ways and begin making reparations. And I'm not talking about that crap called the Strategic Plan for East Greensboro that will only make Greensboro's developers richer while providing only minimum wage jobs in retail and fast food. So don't even try it.

But I was the first to try and open a dialog. Mayor Vaughan, the Greensboro City Council and Greensboro's elites don't want dialog, they only want to stay in power and remain in control so they can continue to do what they've always done.

Who's Running For City Council?

Ready to vote the bastards out of office? So far we have George Hartzman signed up as running for Mayor of Greensboro, Mike Barber and Sal Leone at Large and Jamal Fox signed up for District 2, all hoping to unseat the existing Mayor and city council.

Now I know that some of my neighbors here in East Greensboro have concerns with Mike Barber because according to the News & Record, he wants to reopen the White Street Landfill but think about it this way, would you rather elect a man with which you don't always agree or a proven liar?

I think we've got plenty of liars on council now but it's your call.
